Pregnancy Weight Gain Chart
The Institute of Medicine (IOM/NRC 2009) guidelines on one card: recommended total weight gain for single-baby pregnancies, by pre-pregnancy BMI. These are the same ranges behind our pregnancy weight gain calculator and the CDC's maternal health guidance.
How to use this chart
Find the row that matches your pre-pregnancy BMI and the band shows your recommended total gain for the whole pregnancy. Two things the card can't show: the ranges assume full-term single babies (twins and preterm deliveries have their own guidance), and the pace matters as much as the total — little gain in the first trimester, then roughly a pound a week after.
Your OB or midwife tracks your specific trajectory; this card is the reference to stick on the fridge, not a substitute for prenatal care. For week-by-week numbers, use the pregnancy weight gain calculator.
